We are currently in the midst of a pandemic. To most people, staying safe during COVID-19 means social distancing, wearing masks, and using hand sanitizer. Unfortunately, for many East Asian Canadians, like myself, this virus is only where the danger begins. I used Adobe Photoshop to create this digital painting entitled Staying Safe. This piece speaks out against the rise in anti-Chinese racism that has become prevalent in Canada since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was inspired by the social media trend of recreating Vogue Magazine covers to design a “COVID” magazine. This magazine features real news headlines and a ripped cover to represent the violence and hate East Asian Canadians have been subjected to of late.
